On both the river Glomma as well as on some lakes in the area you can make beautiful canoe trips. Excursions lasting a few days, camping "in the wild" on the beach of a lake, all is possible. Encounters with beaver, otter or elk are almost inevitable. Do you mind? |

A suggestion could be Lake Femund. This is a big lake situated East of river Glomma. It is ten's of kilometres long, the water crystal clear. You can drink it. The silence is overwhelming. Do bring some insect repellent, with lots of DEET in it, to scare off the mosquitoes. Your outdoor shop or pharmacist can help you with it. « top |

Hiking
The area around Tynset and Tolga is a nice one for beautiful hiking trips. You can reach the fjell (mountains) quite easily by car. Then you have a good starting point for endless rambling through these old mountains. Topographical maps are for sale in the kiosk. |

More day trips are recommended. In fact: you only have to choose which direction you want to go, everywhere there is beautiful nature to be dis-covered. That's what Norway is all about! |
|||
|
Take a rest after a long day's hike. Put your feet in the cold water. It's really cold, but in the cabin the stove is already burning. |

And early in the morning it promises to be a lovely day again. Don't you forget to bring your camera!

In Norway man has had little impact on the landscape. When you study old pictures, it really shows that it hasn't changed much. Apart from this fact is the peculiar, somewhat exotic light in the Northern countries. At night in summer the sun shines just over the mountains and plays this lovely game of light and dark with the landscape. This makes Norway the place to be for nature photographers.

Some of the bird species that breed in this Northern country are special for most bird watchers. Species like western capercaillie, Siberian jay, Siberian tit and gyrfalcon belong to this category. You can't be sure you will find them, but certainly you have a good chance. More general species are common crane, white-throated dipper, Merlin, black-throated diver, red-breasted merganser and crossbill. |
|||
|
To see these species you don't really need to leave the campsite. When you are hiking along the fjell there you will probably meet some ptarmigan. Several species of owl and woodpecker are present also, but they are more difficult to find. |

In autumn, which starts early in September, there are a lot of migrating birds in the area. Large groups containing siskin, common redpoll, goldfinch, green-finch, brambling and several species of bunting. Snow bunting in summer outfit you can find on nearby Mount Tron.
